FEMA Flood Ordinance

FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) requires the City of Amenia to update our floodplain management ordinance regulations in accordance with the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS). This must be completed by Sept. 5, 2025

Listed below are the consequences to the city if the ordinance is not adopted:

  1. Suspension from the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP): Our community will lose eligibility for NFIP participation, meaning residents will no longer be able to purchase or renew federally backed flood insurance policies.

  2. Increased Liability: Without a compliant ordinance, our community may face legal and financial risks associated with floodplain management and development.

  3. Impact on Development: Non-compliance may hinder future development and infrastructure projects in your community, as federal funding and permitting may be restricted in certain areas

Flood Plain Map Images

We understand that this may be hard to understand as we cannot decipher properties easily. FEMA is not able to provide us a better version to assist with that. Key to colors can be found on the next image. Brown is areas of less chance of flooding, blue is flood zone and white is no flood zone.
